'West Memphis Three' Anthology: Launch Party Scheduled
August 4, 2004Brett Alexander Savory and M. W. Anderson's West Memphis Three anthology, "Last Pentacle of the Sun: Writings in Support of the West Memphis Three", featuring a contribution by METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, will have its official launch concert/party on October 14 at Club Rockit in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A dealer will be set up at a kiosk with copies of the book for sale, and the entertainment will be Savory's southern doom rock band THE DIABLO RED as well as another act yet to be determined. Doors open at 7 p.m.; cover will be $5.
Due in early October through Arsenal Pulp Press, "Last Pentacle of the Sun: Writings in Support of the West Memphis Three" will raise money for the defense of the "West Memphis Three", young men tried and found guilty of a murder through "a disturbing pattern of public hysterics, official misconduct, and completely illogical judicial conclusions," according to Savory. "These young men were convenient suspects not because of evidence, but because they wore black, listened to heavy metal music, and liked horror fiction. It is a very disturbing situation." Check out the web site created to raise awareness of the case.
The book will be made up of 13 works of fiction and 8 works of non-fiction, plus one set of lyrics, some black-and-white photos, and several black-and-white illustrations, which, when all is said and done, comes out to about 70,000 words. Contributors are (in alphabetical order):
